Before the arrival of St Padraig to the island of Ireland the people had the standard polytheisitc approach to their deities. In other words, they had a lot of Gods with lots of different responsibilities. They also have a lot of tales about them and the mortals whose lives they touched or generally interfered with. Here are a few of them.
- Dagda. Legend states that Ireland was inhabited originally by the Tuatha De Danann, a race of perfect super humans and Dagda was the chief. He had an everlasting cauldron of plenty and a mighty club for giving out life to death. He also had a magic harp that featured in many stories.

- Danu. The mysterious Earth goddess who is also connected with the winds. She seems to have a connection with Gaia in Greel Mythology being the mother of most of the Tuatha.
- Cernunnos the horned God. A God of the woods little is known about him, It hasn’t stopped Neopagans embracing him as their own.
- Brigid. The goddess of Imbolc namely spring time and fertility. She is the only one to make the crossover into Christianly in the form of St Brigid of Kildare.
